Top 5 Beaches in Corfu, Greece

27/5/2019

Comments

With more than 60 uniquely beautiful beaches, it is not an easy task to classify 5 of them at the top of the ranking. So instead, in this article, we will attempt to classify them according to popularity. In order to do that, we have conducted a small survey over the last 2 years, asking tourists from various countries which is their favourite beach in terms of swimming, sports, accommodation, family, food and various other amenities combined.
“ Selecting just 5 of the so many exquisite beaches is highly misleading. One has to do a lot of searching in order to set a personal list of favourite Corfu beaches, if that is even possible. Getting around the island will allow you to swim and enjoy quite a few beaches, depending on the time you have. After all, this is the best way to get to know Corfu and all its charms. ”

Paleokastritsa
At the very top you will find Paleokastritsa (meaning old castle), the most adored bay of Corfu mainly due to its imposing natural beauty but also due to its family oriented amenities (i.e. taverns and accommodation).
Glyfada
Second in rank came the blue flag awarded sandy beach, Glyfada, with its crystal clear bay surrounded by green cliffs of pine and cypress trees.

Sidari
Sidari beach, with its Canal d'Amour owes its number third place to its amazing rock formations that shape narrow canals with turquoise coloured crystalline waters and fine sand. The area becomes quite busy, especially during high season since, as folklore has it, couples in love who swim there will soon tie the knot.
Ipsos
Ipsos, the long pebbly beach that has it all, is at number four. You name it, it has it. Its shallow waters act like a magnet for families with young children and so do its many creature comforts. Wonderful hotels, taverns and bars are dotted around it.

Agios Gordios
Long and sandy with pebbles, Agios Gordios was formed when the huge mountain rocks plunged into the Ionian Sea. The result is a marvel of nature. Vegetation abounds and there are adequate tourist facilities.
